Akimbo Welcomes New Friends From the Smart State!

As of February 2009, Akimbo welcomes 2 new members to the creative coop!

Having recently relocated from the NSW/QLD border to Old Melbourne Town, Akimbo bid farewell to many wonderful fair weather friends and collaborators.

Our connection to this part of Australia runs deep, having been our stomping ground for most of our formative years, so it is with delight that we welcome on board Daniele Constance and Isabel Fitzgerald, our Northern Correspondents.

Meet Daniele

Daniele is a young arts worker and theatre maker.

She is a graduate from Griffith University with a Bachelor in Popular Music Production and Theatre, and is currently a Project Coordinator at Youth Arts Queensland. She is performance coordinator for this year's 2high Festival, and has presented two original theatre works Harvester of Hearts and Don’t Take My Marbles in the previous years of the Festival.

Daniele has held secondment positions with Queensland Theatre Company, Force Majeure, and Backbone Youth Arts; and has recently been employed as a workshop facilitator with Backbone Youth Arts.

Daniele has had training in contact improvisation, contemporary dance, acting (on stage and screen), and voice.

In 2010 she will be travelling to the United Kingdom to work with Mess Up The Mess, a Theatre Company in Wales, to further her experience in program development and theatre based workshops.

In her spare time Daniele presents original music at various venues around Brisbane under the pseudonym Connie Choo.

Meet Isabel

Isabel works freelance in film production and is also currently contracted by Brisbane Festival coordinating volunteers.

She is one of two Exhibitions Coordinators for 2high Festival 2009.
Previously, she studied an undergraduate degree in Creative Industries at QUT, and participated in an exchange year to Italy to study communication design.

After the exchange and more travel, she completed an internship with a music television network in New York - FUSE.

Upon her return, she began working in film production with a number of local production companies while finishing her degree including Brown Dog Productions, Chaotic Pictures, Jaxzyn and Faraway Films.

Isabel continued freelancing on various productions before returning to university for postgraduate study in Journalism. On completion, her path led her to 2high Festival and Brisbane Festival.
